Description

Would you believe that I was just sitting at a train station in Westchester, NY when I took this picture? It doesn't matter where you are because if you like taking pictures, you'll be able to make a great picture out almost anything.

Technical Explanation

This scene didn't look exactly like this when I took the picture. But playing around with the F-stop, I was able to make a rather dramatic picture. With the naked eye, the building at the bottom of the picture was not a as dark as it is here. The sky was very bright... almost too bright to look at. What I was did was to set the f-stop to 16. I then pointed the camera at the sky and took a reading. I set the shutter speed to is recommended speed. I then framed my shot so that the building appears in the lower portion of the picture. Because the camera had its exposure set for a very bright scene, the darker areas become a silhouette. The clouds are then perfectly exposed instead of being over-exposed. The result is what you see here. I love this type of picture.
