Description
A surprise for me about Iceland is just how geologically active it is. They don't heat
their water. It comes out of the ground hot! Our tour took us to an area where there were
many geysers and hot springs. If you ask me, the entire place seemed a bit dangerous. But
they had paths to follow so that you don't fall into a pool of 200° F water! It is hard
to see just how high up this geyser is shooting up, but I'd say it was at least 25 feet
high.
Technical Explanation
Be patient. Patience helps you get great pictures. I just stood there with my camera
while the geyser gurgled. Sometimes it would start to go, and you'd be ready but it would
be a dud. Other times, after getting frustrated while waiting, it would blast up in the
air so high and you'd be kicking yourself for missing it. I had to wait for a while for
this one, but it was well worth it.
Lighting also plays a big part when taking a picture like this. I love the contrast
between the whiteness of the outside of the geyser and the darkness where the water is
very thick. It gives the water an extra dimension.
