Description

This picture was taken in Dallas, TX during a boring, rainy day. Sometimes a photo opportunity is staring you right in the face and you don't even know it. Fortunately I took a break from watching TV during this rainstorm and grabbed my camera.

Technical Explanation

The balance between shutter speed and f-stop is very important in a picture like this. If the shutter speed is too fast, then the sense of motion from the rain drops would not be seen. If your f-stop is too small, then the background might come into focus distracting from the rain. It is important to be sure that you keep your camera dry, especially when taking a picture in the rain. I was fortunate to have a covered porch which provided perfect protection for my camera while still giving me the ability to get close to the action.
