Description

This squirrel lives in Boston. After feeding him, he posed for this picture.

Technical Explanation

Animals are great subjects for pictures. However, they can be unpredictable, and everybody knows that. So when you get a nice shot of an animal, especially a wild animal, people like them even more just because how hard it is to do.

Something you do have as an option if a picture isn't quite right is to have it cropped. Cropping a picture takes out clutter and brings into focus the thing you are actually taking the picture of. The picture you see here is not the actual picture I took. I was a bit farther away, and you can see some pigeons in the background. It was a good picture, but the focus here was the squirrel. In my original version, the squirrel got a bit lost.

You can really see the range of the depth of field in this picture. The entire foreground and the squirrel are completely in focus. After about one foot behind the squirrel does the focus begin to blur. Depth of field is a very powerful tool. Experiment!
